Murrieta psychiatrist arrested for unlawfully prescribing controlled substances
Press-Enterprise (CA) published an article about the arrest of Joel Stanley Dreyer, a 69-year-old Murrieta psychiatrist, at his home in the exclusive Bear Creek area on suspicion of unlawfully prescribing controlled substances in exchange for cash. The article reports that Dreyer had been prescribing large amounts of addictive drugs such as Oxycontin (pain reliever), Vicodin (pain reliever) and Xanax (anti-anxiety drug) to seemingly young and healthy patients for $100 per prescription, after meeting them at places such as parking lots and restaurants, where he would fill out the prescriptions. Some local pharmacy workers were so suspicious of him that they had been refusing to fill his prescriptions and had notified the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and local police.
