Lawmakers angry over unreported sexual assault.
Following an article in the Delaware News Journal entitled, “Delaware Psychiatric Center timeline” which gives a chronological list of the abuses occurring at the Delaware Psychiatric Center and the investigations into the matter, the News Journal published another article in this ongoing series entitled, “Lawmakers angry over unreported sexual assault.” The article reported that during a hearing Monday before a House committee investigating conditions at the Delaware Psychiatric Center, lawmakers angrily pressed hospital administrators over their handling of a recent sexual assault allegation never reported to police. Over the course of its months-long investigation, the House committee has reviewed multiple reports of patient abuse and sexual assault at the state hospital, eliciting assurances from hospital directors that police are always notified of criminal allegations. However, this did not occur when a 62-year old patient was sexually assaulted by another patient three months ago.
